intro
hello! my name is a cheney, though you can also call me aden or autumn! i am twenty years old, i live in durant, oklahoma, in the united states, and i go by any and all pronouns. i am a full-fledged electronic musician, mathematics student, fractal photographer, graphic designer, and programmer. i am also an avid user of gnu/linux and foss! my other hobbies include driving and taking walks in my rural residence
past
ever since i was a kid, i have loved everything futuristic and cutting-edge, and electronic music has always been part of that for me. there’s just something about the sounds of circuitry and binary code that really appeals to me. additionally, i have always been obsessed with the world of numbers and abstract objects; i simply feel there is something beautiful about them
i have been listening to music pretty much ever since i was born. up until i was about 14, i listened exclusively to edm, especially from the edm scene on newgrounds, and here my musical aspirations began to take shape. however, in 2018, i began to diversify my musical interests, and i really immersed myself in the avant-garde during 2019. i began listening to music from the intelligent dance music scene, as well as the noise and industrial genres. 2018 was also the time i got into cacola, who is my favorite artist and probably the biggest influence on my music and aesthetics
around this time, i also discovered how much i love mathematics after stumbling upon the world of fractals. their sheer beauty and order have always hypnotized me. after digging into what makes them work, i decided that this is what i wanted to do as a career. i have always been a good mathematics student, but now i immersed myself in the subject. i am now studying mathematics at university
i began using gnu/linux in late 2018; i had always used windows up until that point, but i was annoyed by its obtuseness and wanted something that was sleeker and more configurable. ubuntu was my first distro, and using it was a great learning experience, but i later moved on to parabola and then debian; i am currently on pop!_os and i love it. i also came to learn about the great aspects of free and open-source software, including its security and freedom, and i embraced it. now, i use almost exclusively foss daily
i began making music using lmms in march of 2019 and made some crappy songs, and kept using that until july that year, when i experimented with renoise and made a decent-ish song with it
but, in august of 2019, i discovered alexander zolotov’s program sunvox. i don’t remember exactly how, but i believe it was after trying to find something that worked well on linux and was a tracker. i downloaded it on my computer and phone, and i loved it! the combination of a tracker sequencer and modular synthesis really clicked for me. plus, the synthesis aspect of it was a great learning tool for me. i quickly made some music with it, and eventually started making synths/effects (modules) for it. now, i believe i have made over 100 modules for the program, and i’m still making more! i know i wouldn’t be the musician i am now without it, and i am thankful for alex’s hard work
present
nowadays, i made music exclusively using sunvox, with occasional use of ardour for metering. i also use pixilang for audio visuals. for graphics, i use mandelbulber2 for rendering fractals, inkscape for vector graphics, and gimp for general image editing. all this is running on a system76 gazelle running pop!_os. i additonally own an alesis keytar (which i plan to eventually use on stage) and other midi keyboards
now that i’m in university, i don’t have as much time as i used to to devote myself to creative endeavors, but i still work on music and art almost daily. i always have a project to work on in the back of my mind, and i am steadily making progress with them
i started this website because everything i made has been spread out over multiple websites and i wanted a place that would serve as a hub for everything i’ve made. i also wanted a place where i could post updates and talk about various subjects without clogging up other people’s sites. it took me a while to actually make that happen, but it’s here now, and i’m proud of it!
